Ecosistemas is a non-governmental, autonomous and independent non-profit organization, comprised of people with diverse professional backgrounds. The founders of Ecosistemas have assumed the challenge to understand, recognize the value of, to nurture, and to protect our ecosystems and our natural and cultural heritage, with the commitment to incorporate in all our activities the principles of respect for the environment, human beings, and democracy. The proposals of “Peoples Agreement” in the texts for

After a week of negotiations, the main conclusions of the World Peoples Conference on Climate Change and the Right of Mother Earth (Cochabamba, April 2010) have been incorporated in the document of United Nations on Climate Change, that now have been recognized as a negotiation text for the 192 countries which has been congregated in Bonn, Germany, during the first week august of 2010.

Dams for Patagonia

An article has been published in Science Magazine about the mega-hydroelectric development threat to Chile's Patagonia. This article is particularly noteworthy because of the analysis that considers the potential impacts of both the massive HidroAysén project, as well as the proposal by Xstrata subsidiary Energía Austral to build another series of large dams in the region of Aysén. The article is worth the read, and is available for download below.

HidroAysén Blasts Their Way Past Corporate Responsibility

I am back in the Berkeley office of International Rivers after a exceptionally quick trip to Chile, including a whirl wind tour down to the Aysén Region of Patagonia. This trip was a productive and intense round of fact finding, meetings with partners, and media outreach--not to mention a chance to participate in a wonderful International Day of Action event.
